920,271. Automatic lathes. E. HAHN, [trading as INDEX-WERKE KOMM.-GES. HAHN & TESSKY]. Aug. 4, 1959 [Sept. 5, 1958], No. 26612/59. Class 83 (3). Control mechanism for an automatic lathe comprises means for rapidly moving the turret-slide during indexing of the turret, overriding the normal cam movement. The main feed control cam 24 for the turret slide 38 is secured to a continuously rotating cross shaft 23. The cam operates through a double-armed lever 27 against a bush 30 slidable and rotatable on a stationary shaft 31. The bush has a cam-groove 32 into which engages a pin 34 secured to an oscillatable toothed quadrant 36 which engages a rack 39 secured to the turret slide. The end of the bush, opposite that engaged by the lever 27, carries a pinion 62 rotated by a long pinion 60 which is in turn rotated from a one-revolution clutch and pinion 57, 58. The rapid rotation of the bush 30 during indexing of the turret effects the overriding movement of the turret slide through the shape of the cam groove 32. Mechanism is also provided for repeated operation of the same tool cutting out the indexing movement.
