Abstract
852,059. Automatic volume control. STANDARD TELEPHONES ,& CABLES Ltd. May 1, 1959 [May 5, 1958], No. 14960/59. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] The gain of a transistor amplifier is controlled by variation of the amount of negative .feedback. As applied to automatic contrast compression, common-emitter connected stages E1-E3 are each provided with a negative feedback resistor Re in the emitter circuit which is shunted for A.C. by a condenser CC in series with a diode D. The diodes form variable shunting impedances the impedance being varied by D.C. derived over series resistors RV from a rectifier D4 connected to a tertiary winding on the output transformer TR2. The initial bias of the diodes D in the absence of a signal is determined by a potentiometer Rp, Rq across the-power, supply, to which the diodes are returned. Specification 807,815 is referred to.
