In apparatus for descaling pipes including a unit consisting of at least two cutting and scraping tools 1, 3, a thrusting device 5, e.g. a turbine device, using part of the energy of a liquid flowing through the pipe to be cleaned, and a unit comprising at least two crushing tools 7, 9, the device and units being connected by hinges 2, 4, 6 and 8 which permit the apparatus to pass through curved pipe sections, each of the tools 1, 3 has a row of knives 24 pressed against the wall of the pipe by individual springs 29 mounted on a sleeve 19 displaceable on a bar 11 and against the force of a spring 17, and each knife has a front part 25, 26 and 27 for cutting into deposits in a radial plane, and a rear V-shaped part 28 for penetrating into grooves produced by the knives and for crushing the deposits and simultaneously scraping the pipe wall; the crushing tools have ribbed rollers 48 pressed flexibly against the pipe wall. The whole assembly is such that the V-shaped parts scrape the whole periphery of the wall,and the rollers crush the deposits between themselves and the wall and are mainly axially displaced. As shown, a sleeve 12 mounted on the bar 11 carries a cutting head 14 for opening up an entry through deposits which have built up into the axial zone of the pipe, and the knives 24 of C-shaped cross-section are mounted by bearings 32 on the sleeve and biased outwardly by the leaf springs 29 the tension of which is regulated by a plate 30 axially displaceable on the sleeve 19. The tools 1, 3 are relatively displaced circumferentially by 30 degrees, and the tools 7, 8 are relatively displaced by 15 degrees. The rollers 48, preferably comprising a number of discs, have ribs disposed in zig-zag lines and are rotatably mounted on hinged blades 46 carried by plates 43, 431 mounted on a bar 41, adjustment of the pressure with which the rollers press against the pipe wall being obtained by discs 49, 52 axially displaceable on the bar 41. In a modification the knives are pressed against the pipe wall by an oil pressure system.
