[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 28, 1935.] [Class 28 (ii)] The mincer described in the parent Specification is modified by the omission of the radial-armed cutter, at the end of the conveyer worm 2, which cutter effects the preliminary cutting. The preliminary cutting is now effected by forming the ends of the stationary cutters 5 with inclined ends 10 which guide the material to the knives 5, 6, and providing the rotary axial cutter 4 with curved knives 12 which cut at the junctions 13 of the ends 10 and the knives 5. The stationary knife unit 3 is inserted into the mincer barrel 1 and is held therein by a screwed clamp ring which bears on a ring 6<1> secured by screws 7 engaging one of a number of grooves 8. The final comminution is effected by the rotary knives 6 and a stationary knife basket 15 secured over the knives 6 by the ring 21 engaging a ring 17. The knife basket, in Fig. 1, comprises annular cutters 16 held together by bolts 19 and spacing washers 20 which are also formed as knife blades. In operation, gristle and the like collects at the ends 23 of the grooves of the axial cutter and is discharged periodically by turning the handle 27 until the aperture 28 registers with the discharge passage 25. Since it is not necessary so to discharge gristle when widely spaced cutters 16 are used, a detachable end plate 31 having pins 30 engaging holes in the cutter 4, is repositioned so that grooves 29 therein are brought out of alignment with the ends 23 of the grooves in the cutter 4, the cutter grooves being thus blanked off. The cutters 16 may be replaced by frustoconical cutters, or the cutters may be disposed obliquely or may be formed as a helix. The cutters may be spaced and supported by longitudinal comb-like bridges which may be sharpened to present additional cutting edges. The cutters 16 may be replaced by a slotted sheet which is rolled into cylindrical form, the meeting edges.being welded together. Alternatively, slotted sheet segments may be assembled to form the cylindrical cutter, the slots of adjacent sheets being staggered. The cutters 16 may have a section in the form of a truncated isosceles triangle to improve the cutting action. Specification 423,651 is referred to.
