Abstract

851,314. Valve gear; cylinders; spray carburetters. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd., and PAYNE, E. R. May 22, 1959 [May 30, 1958], No. 17254/58. Classes 7(2), 7(3) and 7(6). The cam-shaft 24, Fig. 1, of an overhead valve Vee engine is mounted in the centre plane low down in the cylinder head 16 in bearings 28 and the valve rockers 27 are actuated by tappets 25 sliding in vertical guide bores 29 Fig. 2 formed in the cylinder head with their axes on the centre plane. The cylinder head 16, which has a flat lower surface so that the combustion spaces are formed entirely within the cylinder bore, is cored to form separate exhaust ducts 18 and and suction ducts 20 and is formed with a housing 28<SP>x</SP> for the cam-shaft 24. The piston head is stepped at 17 to provide the combustion space.
