Abstract

849,990. Maintaining vehicle height constant. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. Dec. 8, 1958 [Dec. 7, 1957], No. 39402/58. Class 108(2). A regulator valve for controlling the supply of air from a pressure source to two pneumatic suspension units (not shown) is adapted to restrict flow between the respective units when the valve is in a position corresponding to normal level trim of the vehicle. A valve member 26 slidable in a housing bore 28 abuts a rubber valve head 46 under the action of a spring 51. A spring 45 stronger than the spring 51 urges the valve head into engagement with a seat 39 of the housing. Recesses 57<SP>1</SP>, 58<SP>1</SP> formed in diametrically opposed parts of the valve member 26, register with respective housing ports 53<SP>1</SP>, 54<SP>1</SP>, leading to connections for conduits leading to the suspension units. The left hand side of the valve head 46 is in communication with the pressure source. An interior bore 27 of the valve member 26 leads to atmosphere via a filler 52. On increase of vehicle load, a shaft 9 is rotated so as to engage valve member 26 and move it leftwards. Air passes through the open valve 46 into recesses 57<SP>1</SP>, 58', and thence via ports 53<SP>1</SP>, 54<SP>1</SP> to the suspension units. On decrease in load the valve member 26 is urged rightwards and air passing from the suspension units via recesses 57<SP>1</SP>, 58<SP>1</SP> to atmosphere via the bore 27. Air which escapes past a seal 31 , is bled off to atmosphere via a port 34 in the valve member 26. There may be additional ports 53<SP>1</SP>, 54<SP>1</SP> and recesses 57', 58', if correspondingly more suspension units are employed.
