Abstract

985,899. Vehicle pneumatic suspension systems. FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI S.p.A. June 26, 1961 [June 24, 1960], No. 22958/61. Heading B7D. Control means for rendering inoperative the pneumatic suspension system of a tractor, comprises at least one discharge valve 3 pneumatically opened by a three-way electrically operated valve E, Fig. 1, the minimum pressure in the system being determined by a spring 9 which acts to close the valve 3 at the minimum pressure. To reduce the pressure in the air springs A, Fig. 1, of the tractor portion of an articulated vehicle on disconnection of a semitrailer, the chamber 7 of a valve D is pressurized from a reservoir B, connected to spings A, by valve E, to raise piston 5 against spring 9 to open valves 3 and vent springs A and chambers B via port 14 until spring 9 moves piston 5 down to close valves 3 at said minimum pressure. During normal operation, chamber 7 is vented by valve E and valves 3 are closed; a device C adjusts the pressure in springs A. In Fig. 5, spring 26 normally moves piston 25 to open valve 21 via plunger 24 to connect chamber H with air springs G which are controlled by a device C<SP>1</SP>; but on disconnection of the semitrailer, valve E<SP>1</SP> pressurizes chamber 29 from a reservoir on the tractor, to lower piston 25 and close valve 21, the air springs then venting via bore 24<SP>1</SP> in plunger 24, valve 32 and port 34, the spring 33 determining the minimum pressure in the springs G.
