Abstract
849,263. Gas filters. KLING, F. S. Dec. 5, 1956 [Dec. 12, 1955], No. 37236/56. Class 8(2). A hot gas filtering unit 10, Fig. 4, comprises a permiable layer 14 of heat-hardened metallic or ceramic powder bound by sodium or potassium silicate to the upstream surface of a carrier 12 of loose mineral wool held between metal screens 11a, 11b secured together by staples or stitches or of reinforced ceramic paper ; the carrier being of greater permeability than the layer 14 which acts as the filter medium. The layer is applied by painting the face of the carrier with a mixture of graphite, soapstone or aluminium powder and an aqueous solution of the silicate ; the water being driven off by heating at 800 to 1200‹F. A plurality of units 10 so formed are mounted in frames 20, Fig. 7, within a chamber having a dust-laden gas inlet 17, a valved clean gas outlet 19 and a hopper 15 into which dust collected by the layers 14 fall on shaking the units 10.
