Abstract

Optical and ophthalmic lenses are produced from thermosetting synthetic resins by the moulding of a monomer between two mould elements, a polymerised sheet being placed between one of the mould elements and the monomer with its face in contact with the monomer having been roughened so that upon polymerisation of the monomer the two component sections of the lens will be well bonded together. The polymerised sheet has parallel surfaces and is equal in thickness to the minumum thickness of the final lens. Good results are obtained using alkyl derivatives, in particular alkyl diglycol carbonate used alone or in admixture with copolymerisable monomeric materials.
