Abstract

Trichloroethyl esters of acrylic acid, of its homologues or of its derivatives are heated alone, together or with other monomers such as acrylonitrile, methyl or butyl acrylate or methacrylate, or vinyl chloride, in a mould or between moulding surfaces. Pressure may be applied. Alternatively the polymeric trichlorethyl esters, or a mixture of polymer and monomer may be moulded by heat and pressure, the polymers being prepared by mass, emulsion or suspension polymerization. Trichloroethyl acrylate or methacrylate are specified. Benzoyl peroxide may be used as catalyst. Pigments, fillers and plasticizers may be added to the esters. Jewellery, prostheses, dentures, vessels, watch glasses, lenses and sheets may be so moulded.
