Abstract

Lenses or other objects are made by forming the core of the object by incompletely polymerizing a mixture of a major proportion of a monomer which exhibits breakage-resistance when completely polymerized and a minor proportion of a monomer which exhibits scratch-resistance when completely polymerized, bonding a coating of a monomer of the latter type to the core, and thereafter completely polymerizing the constituent materials of the coated core. In a preferred embodiment the core is composed of methyl and allyl methacrylates and the coating monomer is allyl methacrylate.
