Abstract

909,573. Moulding lenses. LENTILLES OPHTHALMIQUESSPECIALES S.A. Oct. 30,1958. [April 25, 1958], No. 34904/58. Class 87(2). A lens is moulded from alkyl diglycol carbonate, dialkyl phthalate or alkyl chloroacrylate in a mould 10, 11 made from tempered glass which is flexible enough to compensate for the shrinkage of the resin during polymerization. The mould parts may be held by a clamp 13 and may have a seal 12 which is plastic enough to compensate for the shrinkage of the resin. In a modification, particularly for moulding the shape of lens shown in Fig. 4, the seat may be removed after gelling of the resin, and a drop of liquid monomer 16 is spread as a film over the gelled resin to prevent ingress of air between the mould parts and the resin during the polymerization. Two lenses may be made simultaneously in a three part mould 17, 18, 19, Fig. 5.
