Abstract

A fixed annular valve casing in two parts 3a, 3b, together with an inlet pipe 3c, and an axially-movable valve shaft 12 having a valve head 11 surround the upstanding driving shaft 4 of a centrifuge drum 5 so that material may be fed symmetrically to the drum through an annular gap 15 when the valve shaft and head are raised by a forked rod 16. Hot water for keeping the material (e.g. sugar) fluid may be supplied to ducts 6 in the valve casing, and to ducts 6a in the valve shaft and head, by pipes 7, 7a respectively. The valve 12, 11 is optional Parts of the apparatus contacted by the material being treated may be made from or coated with a plastic material inhibiting adhesion.
