Abstract

The invention comprises 3-amino-6-chloro-7-sulphamoyl-1:2:4-benzothiadiazine-1:1- dioxide and its mineral acid salts (e.g. hydrochloric) and the preparation thereof by heating 6-amino-4-chlorobenzene-1:1-disulphonamide with an excess of guanidine carbonate at 130-180 DEG C., cooling the mixture, dissolving in water, adding mineral acid to pH 8-9, filtering off unreacted starting material and adding mineral acid to pH 6-7 to precipitate the desired benzothiadiazine.
