Abstract

A solution of the monoethanolamine salt of mercapto acetic acid is prepared by heating S-carboxymethylisothiourea with water and monoethanolamine. The preferred reaction temperature is from 80 DEG to 105 DEG C. S-Carboxymethyl isothiourea can be prepared by reacting sodium monochloroacetate with thiourea.
