Abstract

847,055. Elastic valves. VEREINIGTE ARMATUREN-G.m.b.H. Aug. 8, 1958 [Aug. 9, 1957], No. 25586/58. Class 135. In valves having a sleeve-like diaphragm arranged to coact with a streamlined core to close an annular passage through the valve and wherein the diaphragm is anchored at one or both its ends to the housing and formed with longitudinal slits or recesses arranged alternately on opposite faces to produce a pleated bellows effect in a circumferential direction, the housing adjacent the or both anchoring points is formed with an axially projecting collar and the diaphragm with an enlarged unslit portion which when an unduly high pressure acts on the diaphragm in the closing direction closes the annular openings between the core and the one or both collars. In Fig. 1, the diaphragm 14 is anchored at one end 15 between housing parts 1 and 2 and supported on an axially projecting collar 21 formed on the part 1. Between the end 15 and a lip 17 engageable with the streamlined core 6 the diaphragm is enlarged and formed with longitudinal slits 19 on one face alternated with longitudinal slits 20 on its other face. Adjacent the collar 21 the enlarged portion is unslit and when an excessive back pressure acts on the diaphragm, which normally functions as a non-return valve, the enlarged unslit portion is forced into an annular opening between the collar and the core and so prevents the diaphragm being forced through the opening. In Fig. 5, the diaphragm 37 is anchored at both its ends and enlarged unslit portions 46 adjacent the anchorages are forced into annular openings between a core 35 and axially projecting housing collars 40 when the pressure of operating fluid admitted to an annular chamber 43 outside the diaphragm, is greatly in excess of the pressure of the controlled fluid.
