Abstract

847,004. Double-twist spindles. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., E. Jan. 8, 1959 [March 15, 1958], No. 8375/58. Class 120(2). The package of a two-for-one twisting spindle 7 is held stationary by a fixed bevel gear 3, a bevel gear 22 attached to or forming part of the package carrier 1 and an intermediate disc 2 which has a bevel gear on each side and is rotatably mounted on a skew bearing carried on the spindle 7, the two pairs of intermeshing gears having the same gear ratio so that the tilt of the disc axis rotates but the package carrier is held stationary. As described, all the gears have the same number of teeth. The disc 2 is rotatable on a skew collar 14 formed on the spindle 7 which is driven from a shaft 15 carrying a driving pulley 6. The yarn passes through a central bore in the spindle 7 and through a radial passage 17 of a disc 4 which is rotated with the spindle.
