Mounted on the curved periphery of a cutter drum 12 of a mineral-mining machine amid the cutter picks 13 is at least one upstanding helical blade or plate 14, which serves to deflect cut mineral to the end of the drum adjacent a face conveyer along which the machine travels and to aid in the loading of this mineral directly or indirectly on to the conveyer. The blade or plate may be a single continuous structure or may be formed of a number of sections 14a, 14b, 14c of short length, these sections being independently secured to the drum in a longitudinal overlapping relationship to one another.
