A socket for attaching a handle to a broom consists of a base plate 1 of square, triangular, oblong or other suitable shape provided with holes 2 through which screws or rivets can be passed to secure the plate to the stock 3, and a tubular socket 4 formed with longitudinal splines 6 or ribs which press into the handle 5 which is forced into the socket. In a modification a hole is provided in the base of the socket for the passage of a screw for securing the socket to the stock.
