Abstract

846,058. Television. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Nov. 21, 1958 [Dec. 24, 1957], No. 37538/58. Class 40(3). A high-frequency emphasizing network L1, C1 in the cathode circuit of video amplifier R01 is controlled by a potentiometer P in common with a high-frequency de-emphasizing network L2 in the cathode circuit of sync. separator stage R02 in such manner that the effect of the former is offset by the latter. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the de-emphasizing network comprises resistor-capacitor integrating network in the grid circuit of the separator stage, the resistor being variable and coupled mechanically to a variable resistor in the emphasizing network. The invention is stated to be of use with signals where the picture component is distorted but not the synchronizing component, so that the use of high-frequency emphasis to effect correction would normally over-emphasize the synchronizing signals.
