Abstract

731,168. Automatic gain control. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and HARLING, D. W. July 16, 1953 [July 16, 1952], No. 18009/52. Class 40 (5). In a television receiver in which peak modulation occurs during transmission of a datum level, e.g. synchronizing signals, a carrier-signal emplifier 4 is coupled to a peak detector 5. The output of the detector 5 comprises a negative D.C. potential proportional to the datum level, which is passed through a low-pass filter 6 to a difference circuit 7. A constant D.C. reference potential from terminal 8 is also applied to the circuit 7 and the difference between the two is fed to a D.C. amplifier 9, the output of which controls the gain of a negative feedback path 10 of variable gain provided around the preliminary amplifier 3. In a television transmission system, the A.G.C. circuit may also be used to reduce hum. Specification 699,539 is referred to.
