Abstract
PURPOSE:To attain the simplification and the miniaturization of a device, by detecting the mean value of the output current of a PIN photodiode and then securing an automatic control for the gain of a receiving amplifier. CONSTITUTION:The output current of a PIN photodiode 2 is amplified by both the manual and automatic gain amplifiers 3 and 4, and the initial set output emerges at an output terminal 6. At the same time, the same output current is extracted also out of the cathode side of the diode 2 and integrated by an integrator 11 to be applied to a differential amplifier 12 in the form of the DC voltage. With the fluctuation of the DC voltage, the AC of the output current to be applied to the amplifier 3 has a change of the same ratio as the fluctuation of the DC voltage. Thereofore the reference voltage 9 is set so that the output voltage of the terminal 6 is set at the initial value. If the level of an optical input signal 1 lowers after setting the voltage 9, the output voltage of the integrator 11 lowers. As a result, the output voltage of the amplifier 12 varies to increase the gain of the amplifier 4 to extremely reduce the change of the output signal voltage. The output signal voltage is also set constant even in case when the level of the signal 1 increases.
