Abstract
846,054. Running generators in parallel. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Oct. 7, 1958 [Oct. 15, 19571, No. 31963/58. Class 38 (4). A generating system, particularly for use on aircraft, comprises a plurality of alternating- current generators 28, 30, 32, 34, each of which is driven respectively by prime movers 12, 14, 16, 18, which may be the propulsion engines of the aircraft, the load bus-bars 37, 39, 41, 43 of the generators being connected to semi-conductor rectifiers 36, 38, 40, 42 respectively which rectifiers are connected in parallel to a common direct current bus-bar 44, static inverters 52 being connected to the D.C. bus-bar 44, the operation of the inverters 52 being such that the outputs 56 thereof each provide alternating current having a constant frequency. The system may be single or multi-phase and the inverters of the kind employing transistors; further, the D.C. bus-bar 44 may be sectionalized by means of circuit breakers 46. Gear-boxes 28, 30, 32, 34 may be inserted into the drive between the prime movers and the generators, in order that the generators may rotate at near normal speed with the prime movers idling. Batteries 60 may also be included in the system.
