Abstract

845,327. Hinges and pivots. TONKS (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. Jan. 2, 1959 [Jan. 8, 1958], No. 720/58. Class 65(2) A hinge fitting for use with a toughened glass door having no surrounding frame comprises a pair of plates 14, 15 adapted to be mounted at opposite sides of the edge portion of the door 10, a separate spacing member 16 shaped to fit within a recess a, b in the door and having a bore 16a to receive a hinge pin 19, and at least two bolts 21 with associated nuts 22 for interconnecting the plates, one bolt being engageable with its nut through holes in the two plates and a hole in the spacing member while the other passes through further holes in the plates without passing through the spacing member. The second bolt passes through a cylindrical part 18 fitting within a sub-recess c in the door. The complementary fitting for the glass transome 11 is of similar design, and includes a spacing member 20 and plates 23, 24 of the form shown which also serve to interconnect glass side panels 12, 13, the corners of which are cut off obliquely to form a recess for a distance piece 29. These panels are clamped between the plate 23 and a plate 28 by a bolt 30 which passes through holes in the plates and distance piece and engages a nut 31. A panel 32, disposed at right angles to the panels 12, 13, is clamped between flanges 24a, 28a on the plates 24, 28, respectively, by a bolt 33 which passes through a bush 35 in a recess in the panel 32 and engages a nut 34.
