[Also in Groups XXIV, XXVI and XXXV] A switch for a portable battery-driven fan comprises a metal bridge 29 secured to the synthetic resin battery case 10 by a rivet 30 and a tab 32. Tabs 43 on a slide 44 pass through slots 42 and engage recesses. 46 in a contact spring 45 so that the spring moves with the slide. In the position shown in Fig. 3, with a pip 47, Fig. 4, engaging the lower hole 48, the switch is open. In the other position, with the pip 47 engaging the upper hole 48, contact spring 45 engages a contact surface 35. The Provisional Specification describes a rotary switch housed in the removable end cap of the metal battery case of a portable fan and comprising a fibre disc rotatably mounted on the inner side of the metal end disc of the cap. A helical spring, mounted in an abutment cup carried by the fibre disc, makes contact with one pole of the battery. The fibre disc and abutment cup are rotated by means of a cross piece extending across the outside of the metal end disc, with tongues extending through arcuate slots in the metal end disc and through holes in the fibre disc and bent over at their ends. In the closed position of the switch, a metal projection on the abutment cup makes contact with the metal end disc. In the open position, the metal projection projects through a hole in the metal end disc.
