Abstract

845,128. Protecting pipe threads. HIGGINS, E. F. Oct. 22, 1957 [Oct. 29, 1956; Dec. 27, 1956], No. 32919/57. Class 94(1). A protector for pipe threads is formed of moulded thermoplastic material such as polyethylene and comprises a flange covering the pipe end and a sleeve extending either internally or externally of the pipe and having raised shock-absorbing portions. The sleeve may have a short threaded portion for engaging the pipe threads, the protector being capable of being driven axially onto the pipe and then secured with a part turn of the projector. In one embodiment, the flange 4 has radical ribs 5 terminating in a knurled collar 7, and threads 8 are provided on the sleeve. An external protector has longitudinal ribs 18<SP>1</SP> and threads 17<SP>1</SP>, the ribs 18<SP>1</SP> terminating in end projections 22<SP>1</SP>. A soft metal reinforcing ring 26 may be fitted.
