Abstract

844,988. Potatoes, chipping &c. HOBART MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 14, 1958 [Oct. 14, 1957], No. 32731/58. Class 5(1). Potatoes for chipping &c. are released one by one by a camactuated flap 80 from a hopper 25 into a screw conveyer 70 which is bodily rotated to deliver each into the pockets of a rotor 55 (not shown). The slotted cross bar of each pocket forces each potato against and through a set of fixed arcuate spaced peripheral cutters 50 which cut the potato into a number of flat slices on edge. Further rotation forces these slices against transverse knives 51 in stepped formation which cut them into chips. Other cutters may be substituted, e.g. cutting holes 98, Fig. 11, or to cut thin flat strips, Fig. 13, the cutter holder being releasable to pivot out.
