Abstract

844,956. Labels. ADHESIVE TAPES Ltd. Nov. 5, 1958 [Aug. 14, 1957], No. 25673/57. Class 73. A label 1, Fig. 3, is provided on its rear face with an adhesive web 2 and a protective backing sheet 3 having a tab 4 secured to the outer face of the sheet 3 at its edge to facilitate peeling off of the backing sheet. The labels may be formed by printing e.g. twelve labels on a sheet of aluminium coated with pressuresensitive adhesive and overlaid with a protective sheet of polyvinyl chloride. Two strips of polyvinyl chloride are then secured along their centres by welds 4, Fig. 1, to the protective sheet 3 along parallel outer cutting lines. After cutting the labels are as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, each with a half-width strip portion 5 welded at its edge to the edge of the sheet 3. Alternatively circular portions of polyvinyl chloride are welded to the sheet 3 where cutting lines intersect, spaced so each label after cutting carries a quadrant at one corner. In the case of a protective sheet of paper or woven fabric, the tab may be secured by adhesive and may be applied after cutting so as to project and in effect form a local continuation of the backing sheet.
