Abstract

1,126,399. Colour-embossing labels. AVERY PRODUCTS CORP. 19 July, 1967, No. 33171/67. Heading B8F. [Also in Division B5] Two labels responsive to embossment are joined by a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive which strips with one of the labels, and at least one of the labels changes colour in response to embossment. The second label may comprise an aluminium film, a lead film, or particles of lead dispersed in a medium so that on embossment its transmission of X-rays changes. In the arrangement illustrated a laminated first label is formed by a layer 10 of acrylonitrilebutadiene-styrene copolymer, a layer 12 of polyethylene terephthalate, a base colour coating 14, a pressure-sensitive coating 16, and a release coating 18. A second similar laminated label II and a removable backing 20 are attached. Each label I, II may be replaced by a single colour-embossing label with adhesive backing. In alternative embodiments (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) one of the labels is formed by an embossment-responsive metal foil which may be secured for stripping from either the adhesive or the non-adhesive side of the colourembossing label. Several colour - embossing labels may be provided. The sensitivity of the colour-embossing labels may vary to provide a uniform impression, and the colours may differ.
