Abstract

843,392. Making cylindrical containers. SOC. AZIONARIA BAZATTOLI BREVETTATI ALLUMINIO. Sept. 5, 1956, No. 27103/56. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XVII] A method of making cylindrical containers comprises drawing a ductile metal blank to produce a cylinder, removing the top edge of the side walls and also the base and securing a closure to each end, at least one of the closures including a frangible sealing disc the periphery of which is secured between another part of the closure and the end of the cylinder. A blank of aluminium S is cupped and then drawn into cylindrical form with side walls of uniform thickness. The base 1a is then removed above the corner 1 and the upper edge of the side wall 2 is trimmed. A closure 4, comprising a frangible sealing disc 4b held in position by an annulus 4a of thicker material and the base 3 are secured to the cylinder by seaming. A removable lid 5 is then pressed into position to complete the container. The frangible seal 4b may be metal foil, metallized paper or a plastic material. In a modification frangible seals may be fitted to both ends of the cylinder. Seals may also be fitted under closures such as the closure 3.
