843,262. Valves. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 9, 1956 [Nov. 9, 1955], No. 32076/55. Class 135. A fluid control gate valve has a sliding gate 5 operated through a toothed rack 13 upon the gate and a toothed quadrant or sector 8 to which angular movement is transmitted by a shaft 17 from the control element. On the outlet side of the gate together with the rack 13 are two spring plungers 15 and two lugs 16 that bear on slides 11 in the valve body throughout the opening and closing movements of the gate. At the side of the bodv at which the control element such as an operating lever or an operating wheel is set, the spindle extends through a sealing gland on which is mounted a quadrant which bears indications of the position of the gate 5 by reference to the corresponding position occupied by the lever. The gate is located laterally by shrouding the rack 13 on each side with a wall so that the width of the rack is the same as that of the sector, which itself is located in the housing by means of sleeves. The well 4 in the casing is of a depth that will permit it to serve as a dirt trap.
