An anode system for an X-ray tube comprises an anode body provided with internal passages for cooling fluid, and a target member detachably secured to the outside of the anode body. In the drawing, the detachable member is shown as a copper tip 5, which may have a surface layer 8 of tungsten, and which is secured against the flat end of the anode by a screwthreaded collar 7. A copper tube 3 inside the copper anode body 1 provides a double passageway for circulating cooling fluid.
