Class 86 In a rotary drum type concrete' mixer having a skip 15 which can'be hoisted up for placing concrete-making materials in the drum 1, the skip has an associated shogging hammer or hammers 20, keyed to a shaft 19 and operated by an adjustable pitman 16 to aid the emptying thereof. The drum, supported by a cradle (not shown), is mounted in a framework comprising structural members 2a, 2b, 2c and two channel members 21 attached to a pair of sloping stays 14, the members 21, 14 being provided with struts 21a, 14a, respectively; it is rotated by a shaft 3 through bevel gearing 4, 4a, and its supporting cradle permits it to be tilted about a horizontal axis. The skip is adapted to be hoisted by a cable 11b which is attached to its rear portion and passes over a guide pulley 11c to a winch 11a a driving flange 10 of which can be made to engage a driving cylinder 6 on the shaft 3, and during such movement front and rear wheels 15a, 15b on the skip run in and on, respectively, the channel members 21 which constitute rails. At the upper position the wheels 15a. engage in the downwardly sloping tops of the rails 21, whereupon continuing tension of the cable 11b causes the skip partly to somersault forward. The hammers 20 are then operated by rocking the shaft 19 through the pitman 16, by an eccentric 16b on the shaft 3 to cause them to jolt the front wheels 15a of the skip.
