842,572. Harvesting machines. OVERUMS BRUK A. B. June 14, 1957 [June 14, 1956], No. 18805/57. Class 6(3). A leaf-stripping device for root crops comprises a cutter 6 on a frame 1a-1c mounted on a shaft 11 carried rockably on the front of a carrying appliance, e.g. a beet harvester, and a feeler roller 2 rotatably attached to the frame 1a-1c for contacting the crop foliage thereby adjusting the height of the cutter. The cutter 6 is mounted on struts 6a movable about a pivot 12 through an intermediate link ; and a strap 13, nuts 12a and bolt 12b enable the cutter 6 to be adjusted in given positions relative to the frame 1a-c which is held down by a spring 8 fixed at one end to the carrying appliance. A stay 10 attached to the carrying appliance limits this downward action by means of a nut 10a. A chain elevator 5, driven from the carrying appliance travels round the roller 2, which is formed by two discs, and a roller 4 consisting of two gear wheels spaced apart. Guide rails 7 aid in raising the foliage which, when cut, is engaged by the teeth, of the chain elevator, Fig. 3. A stripping roller 9 removes the foliage from the elevator.
