Abstract

842,233. Pipe joints. BAGNULO, L. July 16, 1958 [July 27, 1957], No. 22791/58. Class 99(1). A joint for fluidly connecting and electrically insulating metal pipes 10, 11 includes an annular member 19 secured in an outer tubular member 13 and an annular flange 12 on the pipe 11 the diameter of that flange being greater than the inner diameter of the member 19 and less than the inner diameter of the member 13 ; the outer diameter of the pipe is less than the inner diameter of the member 19, and the flange 12 is axially spaced from that member. Insulating material in the form of an annular element 24 is located in abutting relationship between the member 19 and the flange 12. As shown in Fig. 1, the member 13 is secured to the pipe 10 which has an annular flange 15 and is screw-threaded internally for receiving the member 19 ; alternatively the latter is welded in place. An annular insulating element 23 is disposed between the flanges 12, 15 and insulating material 17 fills the space between the flange 12 and member 13. A mass 22 of thermoplastic material, e.g. resin, asphalt or a polyester, is poured into the space between the pipe 11 and member 13 and allowed to set. In modifications, (a) the member 13 has an internally screw-thread axial extension for the connection thereto of a pipe, and the pipe 11 is replaced by an internally, screw-threaded, tubular part for engagement with a pipe, (b) the member 13 is in the form of a saddlepiece for the connection of a branch pipe to a main pipe and is secured to the latter by U-bolts, and (c) the member 13 is formed with a radial flange for connection to the wall of a tank.
