A 4-pole contactor comprises an insulating block 13 of inverted L-shape having barriers 39 at intervals therealong, which barriers form between the two arms of the " L " cavities 14, 22, 31, 32 for the contact groups and extend above the horizontal arm of the " L " to form terminal cavities 43. Each cavity 14, 22, 31, 32 accommodates either a normally-open bridging contact and its fixed co-operating contacts (Fig. 3, not shown) or a normally closed bridging contact 12 and its fixed contacts 9, 10. The cavities are closed by a cover block 47 having barriers 48 formed at their edges 48a with channels 64 to mate with the lower portions 39a of the barriers 39. The contacts are controlled by four members 28 mounted at intervals along a bar 30 carried by a vertically-guided U-shaped member 60 pivotally connected at 61 to an armature 58 which is attracted towards an E-shaped core 55 when a coil 56 is energized. Thus in the instance of the contact 12, raising of the bar 30 causes a member 28 to abut the contact and open it against the bias of a spring 37, whilst in the instance of a normally open contact this is spring-mounted in a member 28 and thus moved to the closed position. A fixed member 62 slidably guides the member 60.
