Abstract

840,632. Granulating slag. KUZELA, J., and VAIRN, F. April 5, 1957 [April 9, 1956], No. 11194/57. Class 82(2) [Also in Group V] Liquid slag is granulated and foamed by being fed to a funnel 1 having a central insert 1<SP>1</SP> forming an annular outlet from which the slag flows in the form of a cylinder 3, water with or without steam, air or other gases being injected within the cylinder against a distributer 5 for frothing the slag. The slag falls on a rotatable disc 4 on which the slag is disintegrated. The slag particles are rounded and cooled as they roll over the disc and down the sides of the cone 7. The cone 7 may be rotated in the opposite direction to the disc 4. Unfoamed granules may be formed by cutting of the supply of water or other foaming agent.
