Abstract

840,593. Moulding rubber soles on to footwear. FOK, K. K. S. Feb. 18, 1959 [Dec. 4, 1957], No. 37746/57. Class 87(2). A number of similar shoe-sole moulds are disposed transversely of and spaced longitudinally along a base frame 22, each mould comprising a lower part 48 in one piece secured to the base frame and an upper part 50, 52 split from toe to heel in two halves, the lefthand halves 52 of all the upper mould parts being rigidly connected to one another and to a slider assembly 35 longitudinally slidable on one end of the base frame and the right-hand halves 50 of all the upper mould parts being similarly connected to each other and to a second slider assembly 34 slidable on the other end of the base frame, and the slider assemblies having opposite handed nuts engaged by opposite handed threads on a manually operable lead-screw 30 ; the machine further comprising a gantry structure 94, a horizontal longitudinal beam 106 carrying shoeupper supporting lasts 130 slidably mounted on the gantry structure, and a second manually rotatable lead-screw 108 engaging nuts 112, 114 connected by toggle-linkages 116, 118 and 120, 122 to the beam 106 and the upper member 100 of the gantry structure 94. An electric heater 46 is disposed below the lower part 48 of each mould. Each of the lasts 130 is mounted on the beam 106 by an assembly, Fig. 13, consisting of super-imposed, horizontal plates 132, 138 which are mutually adjustable by screws 144, 150 and 156 so as to enable the position of the last 130 relative to the beam 106 to be adjusted both vertically and horizontally, endwise and side-ways, and in respect of its orientation in plan and its inclination to the horizontal both endwise and sideways. The uppers may be fitted to the lasts 130 ay using a shoe horn 164. If, on opening the moulds, any shoe is found to have a fualty sole or edge, a small piece of rubber containing an ultra-accelerator may be inserted into the place needing repair and the mould again closed for a short period.
