Abstract
<PICT:0840376/III/1> Monohydrated ferrous sulphate is prepared by fragmenting crystals of the heptahydrate to obtain a residue of 0 to 5% on a sieve having a 0.25 mm. aperture (B.S.S. 60), dispersing such fragments in a gaseous medium and heat treating the heptahydrate crystals while so dispersed to effect the dehydration. The fragmenting and dispersing of the heptahydrate may be effected simultaneously. As shown in Fig. 1, heptahydrate crystals are fed by a conveyer 2 to a conduit 3 to which hot gases are supplied by pipe 5. The dispersion so formed passes to a combined fan and crusher 4 where the crystals are broken up and dehydrated. The monohydrate is recovered in cyclone 9. Air at 300 DEG to 700 DEG C. may be fed through line 5 for the dehydration.
