Abstract
Absorbable haemostatic surgical sponge material is made from a mixture of 40-80% of cooked starch and 60-20% of gelatine, by weight. Aqueous solutions of the starch and gelatine are mixed and a small quantity of formaldehyde is added. The mixture is then beaten up to produce a foam which is subsequently dried and sterilised. Antibiotics, antiseptics or other medicaments may be incorporated in the mixture before beating.ALSO:Absorbable haemostatic surgical sponge is made from a mixture of 40-80% of cooked starch and 60-20% of gelatine, by weight.
