Abstract

840,156. Automatic gramophones. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 23, 1958 [Oct. 26, 1957], No. 33948/58. Class 40 (2). A non-stepped centrepost 1 for a gramophone record-changer has a set of three members 7, spaced at 120 degrees and biased outwardly by the resilience of their shanks and a corresponding set of members 16 biased so as to retract into the post. The ends 18 of the members 16 are normally level with some part of the thickness of the lowest record awaiting play 8<SP>1</SP>. An operating member 3, slidable in the centre-post raises a tubular member 4 to retract the members 7 and forces the tips 18 of the members 16 between the records 81 and 8<SP>11</SP> by means of the obliquebased slots in the multiple cam member 15, allowing the lowest record to drop while holding up the others. Once the ends 18 are displaced outwardly, the members 16 are sufficiently separated to allow passage for the member 15 and the retracted members 7. However, when the last record has been played, the absence of a downward force on their upper ends causes the members 7 to rise with the member 4 instead of being forced into it and the ends 18, engage in the recesses 28 in the members 7 and any further rise of the operating member 3 is prevented by the pin 20 engaging in the slot 21 in the member 19, whereupon mechanism operates a motor switch to stop the machine.
