Abstract

603,517. Magazine gramophones. SLATER, G. Oct. 23, 1945, No. 27843. [Class 40 (ii)] In a magazine gramophone of the type in which records are stacked before play on a centre spindle, the records are supported by radially disposed spring-loaded members 7 which are retracted during a record-changing operation by the downward movement of an inner shaft 12, the withdrawal of which releases the end of a spring-finger 11 which presses a sliding jaw 9 against the wall of the central hole of the lowest but one record of the stack, and thereby prevents all but the lowest record falling to the turntable 1. Fig. 1 shows the inner shaft 12 in the withdrawn position during a record-changing cycle, while Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates a modification in which a number of radially disposed spring-loaded jaws replace the sliding jaw 9 and spring-finger 11. The undersides of the records supported on the centre spindle may be played by providing an extra pick-up arm, and introducing suitable reverse gearing between the motor and the turntable 1 by the direct driving wheel 5 and intermediate wheel 5a.
