Abstract

643,889. Automatic gramophones. COSTA, H. DA, and PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Nov. 6, 1947, No. 29584. [Class 40 (ii)] In a magazine gramophone in which the records are supported and stabilized solely by the turntable spindle, a lower retractable support is provided which is separated by a collar from an upper displaceable means which is caused to displace the next record so that it is supported on a sheaf formed by part of the collar when the bottom record is released from the lower support. The Figure shows a turntable spindle in which the stack of records is supported by the expanded end portion of sleeve 6. Upward movement of slidable tube 9 compresses the end portion of sleeve 6 so that the lowest record is released on to the turntable. A collar 10 having a thickness equal to that of a record is fixed above sleeve 6 and a divided sleeve element 11 is provided above collar 10. Rotation of spindle 1 which has a flat portion at each end, in sleeve 4, results in one portion of sleeve 11 being laterally displaced by ball 5 whereby the record next to the lowermost record is moved sideways so that it is then supported by the edge of collar 10. When sleeve 6 is expanded, after releasing the bottom record, spindle 1 is again rotated so that the displaced portion of sleeve 11 restores, and the record stack then falls from shelf 10 on to the support 6. Any suitable automatic means may be used to raise tube 9 and rotate spindle 1. The divided sleeve 11 is surrounded by a housing 14 which is retained in position by means of a spring 15. The two portions of sleeve 11 may be urged together by means of a surrounding spring. Specification 600,466 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
