[Also in Group VII] A device for cutting pile yarns comprises a pair of relatively reciprocable blades one of which has a series of holes through which the pile ends can project, and the other comprises a plurality of flexibly mounted cutting elements each of which presses on to the first blade and co-operates with one or a group of holes, upon relative reciprocation, to shear the pile yarns. In Figs. 2,4 a fixed blade 10 is formed with a series of holes 16 each adapted to receive a pile end 27, and formed with an inclined cutting edge 17 which may be provided on a hardened member inserted into blade 10. A pile-retaining wire 15a is fixed to the undersurfaces of the sides 15 of the holes. The sides 15 may be separate members inserted into separate rear and front parts of blade 10. The movable blade comprises a plurality of cutting elements 20 presenting cutting edges 21 of serrated form, and connected by screws 22, 25 to a reciprocating bar 19, springs 24 being interposed between the heads 23 of screws 22 and the members 20 in order to mount the latter resiliently. In a modification, Fig. 6, the movable cutting elements 34 have attached to their edges remote from their cutting edges 35 an angle member 36 which enters a slot 32 formed in a reciprocating bar 29. The vertical leg of an angle member 30 is attached by screws 31 to bar 29, and the horizontal leg, which overlies the elements 34, carries grub screws 33 which abut the latter.
