Abstract
839,474. Winding ropes etc.; traversing mechanisms. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. Aug. 24, 1956 [Aug. 24, 1955], No. 26002/56. Class 120(2) Traverse mechanism comprises a rotatably supported lead-screw shaft, means forming a guideway, a carriage movable on said guideway, and a driving connection between the shaft and the carriage, in combination with driving means for rotating the shaft in either direction comprising a power driven wobble plate, a pair of oppositely acting clutches having a driving connection with said shaft and connecting. means for selectively connecting said clutches to the wobble plate. In the arrangement shown sprocket wheel 66 is driven from any part of the winding machine and rotates the shaft 64. Pivoted on the shaft 64 is a wobble plate 80 which can be angularly adjusted by the knob 68 and the groove of the wobble plate engages pins 110 and 112 carried by plates 106 and 108 of a framework which carries housings 88 and 90 of a pair of one way clutches. Journalled in these housings is a shaft 92 and the housings form the driving portions of the clutches and drive the shaft 92 through the driven portions 96 and 98 keyed to the shaft. Rotation of the wobble plate therefore causes oscillation of the framework and in turn of shaft 92 through one or the other of the clutches. The shaft 92 drives, through bevel gears 94, 24, the lead-screw shaft 22 on which is mounted a nut 60 which carries the traversing guide carriage 52. The direction of rotation of shaft 92 and therefore the shaft 22 is determined by which clutch is in engagement and this is determined by latchs 130 and 132 which can be brought in and out of engagement with the respective notched rings 114, 116 of the clutches. The latches 130 and 132 are under the control of solenoids 122 and 124 and appropriate return springs and the solenoids are alternately energized by limit switches 134 and 136 at the ends of the traverse. The positions of the limit switches 134 and 136 can be adjusted so as to vary the length of traverse.
