At the end of fashioning on a straight-bar machine the fashioning points and boxes are returned to their initial position during one false draw of the machine when a pattern chain lug operates a catch 27 which is continuously reciprocated by the draw mechanism so that it engages a rack 22 to move it and through gearing 3 ... 21 the fashioning screws 1, 2. Two bevel gears 16, 32 may be provided in the drive from the rack 22 either of which may be slid into engagement with a central bevel gear 17 depending on the direction in which the screws are to be turned after either narrowing or widening. The catch 27 is provided with two projections one of which engages the rack 22 at one end and the other at the other end also depending on the direction in which the screws are to be turned.
