Abstract

838,948. Confectionery. ROBERTSON & WOODCOCK Ltd. Aug. 19, 1958 [Aug. 26, 1957], No. 26918/57. Class 28 (1). Confectionery is made by applying a pattern in edible printing ink to an edible wafer, applying the wafer to a piece of sugar confectionery and coating them with an opaque edible coating. A piece 10 of boiled sugar confectionery made of toffee or the like and coloured to provide a contrast with the picture has a stick 12 inserted therein during manufacture. The wafer 15 is placed in a depression in piece 10 while the latter is still hot and sticky. The lollipop is then coated, preferably only on the wafer side, with a hard transparent mass 14, much less soluble than the final coating, and consisting of glucose or the like which may contain 1 to 2% fat, e.g. cocoa butter, along with colouring and flavouring, if desired. The coating 18 may be chocolate applied by dipping or the like and then placed in a stream of air to remove the surplus. The wafer is preferably flexible rice paper which is smooth on the side to be printed and is printed in large sheets and then cut up.
