Abstract

An emulsion polishing composition adapted to be ejected from an aerosol "bomb" comprises water, a lustre-producing agent, an abrasive, an emulsifying agent, and a propellant that volatilizes at ambient temperature. The lustre-producing agent may be a wax or a hydrocarbon oil or a mixture thereof; the abrasive may include diatomaceous earth, colloidal silica, and iron ore; the emulsifying agent may be an alkyl aryl sulphonate; the propellant may be dichlorodifluoromethane or dichlorotetrafluoroethane or a mixture thereof. In an example, a polish contains softened water, amyl acetate, methyl salicylate, methyl parahydroxy benzoate glycerine, formaldehyde, hydrocarbon oil, paraffin oil, polyvinyl alcohol, gum tragacanth, wetting agents and abrasives, and a mixture of the above two propellants.
