838,559. Diaphragm valves. SAUNDERS VALVE CO. Ltd. Oct. 30, 1958 [Nov. 8, 1957], No. 34921/57. Class 135. A diaphragm valve of the kind having a weir 11 with which the diaphragm, reinforced with nylon or polyester fabric 14 and clamped between the body 12 and bonnet 17, coacts has a supporting surface 21 extending inwardly from the clamping surface of the bonnet whereby the diaphragm is supported over substantially half of its area when open. The diaphragm is connected to a compressor 18 which has diametrically opposite toes (not shown) for pressing the diaphragm over the entire width of the weir, the bonnet having grooves to receive the toes and the supporting surface 21 being interrupted to permit the passage of the toes.
