[Also in Group XXII] An endless sealing-ring comprises a sleeve 11, Fig. 3, which may or may not be provided with a core 3, and consists of a single piece of synthetic material spun into the desired crosssection. As shown in Fig. 1, the sealing-ring is produced from a ring 1 (of polytetrafluoroethylene or any other of the polymers of halogen-carbons) press-fitted on a rotating shaft 2, by advancing in the directions a, b two tools 4, 8 which are arranged so that their cutting-edges 6 machine off a thin strip 5 of the material and by virtue of grooves 7 in the tools roll or spin the strip around a core 3 surrounding the ring 1. The two edges of the sleeve so formed may be arranged to abut or overlap, the position of such joint being determined by the position of the core on the ring 1. The core ring 3 may be provided to act only as a mandrel during the spinning operation and then removed. Other sealing-rings of generally U or V cross-section are described wherein the tools 4 are shaped accordingly and the core ring is removed after manufacture.
